A programme of a cappella singing by up to 5 voices. Traditional, ancient and contemporary pieces all appropriate to the season. We hope to include music by Lassus, Eccard, Praetorius, Foster, Macmillan along with many traditional carols and pieces written by our own Celia Harper.

CB sing a cappella pieces by Celia Harper as part of local composers group Composers Present programme at the Church of St Saviour Wendell Park. CB music includes the premiere of Celia’s setting of George Herbert’s poem Bitter-Sweet commissioned by Christabel Ames Lewis. Also settings of 3 poems by Gloucestershire poet FW Harvey. The programme also includes organ and piano music taking advantage of the church organ and the fine Steingraeber concert grand piano currently on loan in the church.

Our seasonal concert of Advent a cappella music from 11 – 21st centuries will include traditional and modern Advent carols and in particular a chance to hear Celia’s recent commission “Songs to the Black Madonna”. A musical space for reflection before the Christmas rush!
MUSIC FOR ALL SOULS at ST MARY’S ACTON
Sunday 21 October 2012 at 6.30 pm “Words and Music towards All Souls” at St Mary’s Church, Acton High Street, W3 9NW (by Morrisons).
On similar lines to Music and Silence at St Saviours Wendell Park, this will be approximately one hour of music with silences and spoken words looking forward to All Souls at the end of the month. The music will be a typical CB mixed bag including the Schutz “Selig sind die Toden” written specially for All Souls. We will be trying for the innovation of saxophone improvisation by the Rector over the Morales “Parce mihi Dominum” which is in our repertoire just for voices. Some of you may know “Officium” the CD by Jan Garborek with the Hilliard Endemble from which this was a much played piece a few years back. Also there will be some spirituals ending with “Steal Away”.

MUSIC AND SILENCE – CB with DAVID JURITZ
Following our Music and Silence a year ago, we are delighted to be able to offer a further programme of music and silence but this time with the addition of solo violin and violin with solo voice in addition to a cappella four part singing. We invite you to create positive silences with us with the music arising out of and falling back into silence. The music will include Bach chorales and solo violin, Morales, J Handl, Victoria, Byrd, Tallis, Tchaikovsky and Harper. There will be a retiring collection for Musequality, a local charity taking music projects to some of the poorest children in the developing world. www.musequality.org

Gillian Pillans, Shelley Smith and Oliver Hinton sing Celia Harper’s settings of WB Yeats poems written for solo voice and violin. Michael Schofield, viola player in the Bridge Quartet is picking up his fiddle for these pieces as part of the Composers Present concert at St Peters Church, Hammersmith W6.

MASS FOR CHILDERMAS DAY
CB will be at the Church of the Holy Innocents, Paddenswick Road, W6 taking part with St Peter’s Singers, handbells and organ in the third Patronal Festival Mass to include Celia’s Mass for Childermas Day commissioned by the Church of Holy Innocents for 2009.
